This graph represents mice injected with various vectors and "challenged" with tumor cells. Only the mice immunized with the mutant p53 peptide fused to the E3 leader sequence are protected.

Induction of cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) is most effective in the tumor-bearing mice injected with the mutant p53 fused to the E3 leader sequence. The CD8+ phenotype of T lymphocytes is necessary for the development of CTLs. These results indicate that the mutant p53 peptide combined with the E3 leader sequence is the most effective way of inducing CTL develpoment from CD8+ which specifically lyse the tumor cells in the mice.
