Smoking: Harmless Habit or Deadly Addiction?
Dr. Mark Dodson of the Department of Biochemistry, Group Seven's mentor, chose two
articles from Nature as our assignment for Biology 181H. ("Smoking...Harmful to the Brain.", and
"Effects of nicotine on the nucleus accumbens and similarity to those of
addictive drugs.", both in Nature 382, 18 July, 1996) Our group met with him to discuss these
articles, and he provided us with some needed background on the techniques and concepts described
in the second article.
